Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine Specifications

Specs and Info

The T8 Twin-Engine is the plug-in hybrid version of the new XC90, Volvo’s large SUV, and it arrives in early 2016, about six months behind the D5 diesel and T6 conventional petrol.

United States Specifications

Rated at 394 hp, the Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid uses a 9.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and achieves an EPA rating of 18 miles. The 4 cylinder engine produces 318 horsepower, and the electric motor produces the other 82 hp.

Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the xc90 T8 PHEV can accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds, which makes it faster than any of the non-plugin hybrid T6 gasoline powered models.

Volvo is also the first OEM to include a portable, dual 240volt/120volt EVSE cord set available as standard equipment.Recharge time takes about 2.5 hours at 240V (level2), and there is no fast charging option.

Currently, as of October 2015, Volvo says that the XC90 T8 PHEV will arrive in the USA this fall, but has already been sold out well into 2016. Volvo’s estimates for the plug-in hybrid sales rate was surpassed by a multiple of five times!

Overall fuel efficiency is rated at around 59 MPGe, which blows all other 7-seat SUVs out of the water and makes this the clear, and only, choice for SUV buyers that want to improve fuel economy in a drastic way.
