USA Availability
February 15, 2019 – Because of high demand for the Kona EV, Hyundai is no longer allowing people outside of the 10 ZEV states to order the Kona Electric until they are able to meet demand.
January 28, 2019 – Hyundai issues a press release with 2019 Kona Electric price details in USA. All 3 trim models have the same 64 kWh battery pack and 201 horsepower electric motor.

On December 14, 2018, Hyundai North America announced the pricing of the 2019 Kona Electric crossover. The starting price for the Kona EV is $36,450. After the $7500 federal tax credit, the net price will be $28,950 plus a $900 delivery charge.
As of June 2018, Hyundai USA still has a “sign up for updates” on their homepage, and has yet to announce pricing for the 2019 Kona Electric. Best estimates are that the Kona EV will arrive in the US sometime in the first half of 2019.
Canadian Availability
On the Hyundai Canada website, the Kona Electric is publicized as the first electric sub-compact SUV in Canada. However, the main header on the page also states the Kona Electric is ‘coming soon’.
UK Availability
On June 29, Hyundai Motor UK announced pricing for the KONA Electric.
The 39.2 kWh Kona Electric SE pricing starts from £29,495 (excluding Plug In Car Grant). For the 39.2 kWh Kona Electric Premium, the price starts from £30,870 (excluding Plug In Car Grant) and includes additional equipment like privacy glass, LED rear lamps, automatic windscreen wipers as well as an 8inch touchscreen system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
For the larger capacity, 64 kWh KONA Electric Premium, pricing starts at from £36,295 (excluding Plug In Car Grant) and adds not just the larger battery pack, but other features such as heated and ventilated seats, LED headlamps, and heads up display.
Starting August 2, 2018, Hyundai Motor UK will have the KONA Electric only available through Hyundai’s Click and Buy website initially.
In 2019, the automaker plans to rollout the KONA EV to its dealer network.
KONA Electric Pricing and Availability in Germany
The Kona Electric will be available in 2 battery pack sizes, and three trim levels. The 39.2 kWh battery size with basic trim, called KONA Trend, will cost 34,600 euros – not counting the 4,300 euro environmental bonus available.
In order to get the largest, 64 kWh batter pack, price for the premium trim level starts at 39,000 euros, with the top level Kona Electric Premium trim socsting 45,600 euros.
Availability in Norway
In early June 2018, Hyundai Norway announced the Kona EV would be priced at 254,900 NOK (approx $31,000 USD) and they began to accept orders. Shortly later, Hyundai Motor Norway announced the order list was closed, as more than 20,000 people expressed interest.
In order to balance limited production capacity between several markets, Hyundai Norway announced that only 2500 copies of the Kona Electric would be sold in Norway this year, which means some of the almost 7000 initial orders will be waiting until 2020 to receive their Hyundai EV.
Deliveries are scheduled to start on July 1, 2018.
Australian Availability of Kona Electric
Based on the popular Kona ICE version and at a price of around AUD $55,000 plus, it is more expensive than the 2018 LEAF and base level Tesla Model 3 when it arrives, but the Kona EV can still be a competitor.
The Kona EV is coming to Australia towards the end of 2018, but Hyundai has not made an official announcement if both the 39.2 kWH and 64 kWh battery pack sizes will be available.
Historical Availability of the Kona Electric
March 20 – Hyundai USA sent out emails to people who had registered interest in the Kona EV that are outside of the initial areas of availability offering them a gasoline powered Kona.
Feb 21 – Hyundai USA made an announcement in response to the overwhelming demand for the Kona EV “Given the current demand for Kona Electric in California and other ZEV states, we aren’t able to support volume sales in all non-ZEV states at this time. In the near future, we do plan to offer Kona Electric in non-ZEV states that exhibit higher electric vehicle demand.”
On February 14, Hyundai USA delivered the first Kona Electric in the USA to a pediatric doctor in Baltimore, Maryland.
In a press release on January 28, 2019, Hyundai announced the Kona EV is “with initial availability in California and subsequently in the ZEV-focused states in the western and northeastern regions of the U.S. market.”
Previously, Hyundai stated that the Kona Electric was arriving in California in early 2019, with other ZEV-focused stats in western and the northeastern regions of the U.S. market to follow. Orders will be accepted from every state.
December 2018 – Hyundai USA announces pricing for the Kona Electric as well as affirms production targets for the U.S. market. Initially available in California in early 2019, and then in other ZEV_focused states in western and northeastern regions of the U.S. market. November 2018 – After a trip to South Korea by Michael O-Brien, Hyundai Motor America’s VP for product, corporate, and digital planning, Hyundai says that deliveries of the Kona Electric will start in California before the end of the year, with other ZEV states to follow 2 weeks later. Customers in all other areas of the country can order the Kona Electric.
October 2018 – Hyundai USA sent an email out to people registered as ‘interested’ in the KONA Electric. With the subject line of “Coming soon: Our first electric SUV”, the email highlighted the incredible range of up to 258 EPA estimated miles, quick easy charging, and all of the tech options in the cockpit. The email stated that the Kona Electric would arrive in California in early 2019, and if you couldn’t wait, you could see Hyundai electric vehicles that were ‘available now’ (IONIQ EV, PHEV, Hybrid and Sonata Hybrid). October 2018 – Kona Electric delayed until August 2019 in the UK. Since the order books opened in August, the delivery details have changed. Originally, the 39.2 kWh battery version was shown ready for immediate delivery, and the 64 kWh was scheduled for February 2019. Now, both are showing as August 2019
October 2018 – Hyundai Canada has pushed back all deliveries to the start of 2019 according to letters sent out to Kona Electric reservees
August 2018 – Hyundai said they intend to sell the Kona EV in India, but no date was given. The price in India is expected to be Rs. 20-25 lakh (between around $28,560 to $35,700)
August 2018 – August 4th, Hyundai Norway unloaded the first shipment of Kona Electric vehicles in Norway.
August 2018 – Hyundai confirms the Kona Electric will be introduced in Australia later this year, but no more specifics were given.
July 2018 – Hyundai Canada began accepting pre-orders with a $1000 CAD deposit with expected delivery by the end of 2018.
July 2018 – Hyundai sold 2500 copies of the vehicle in July with almost half in South Korea, and the rest overseas.
June 2018 – Hyundai announced pricing for the 64 kWh Kona Electric and began accepting orders, with first deliveries scheduled to happen a month later in July. Due to overwhelming demand of more than 20,000 interested customers, Hyundai Norway had to close the ordering list and only 2500 KONA Electrics set to be sold in Norway this year.
June 2018 – In Norway, from the list of 20,000 reservation makers, Hyundai has 6,969 confirmed orders for the Kona EV.

May 2018 -South Korea began receiving deliveries of the Kona EV
InsideEVs reports the electric vehicle is going on sale in Europe in mid-2018 with an expected base price of £30,000 (€34,000 or over $40,000) for the base range, and £35,000-£37,000 (€40,000-€42,000 or $47,000-$50,000) before incentives for the range topping model with the 64 kWh battery pack.
April 2018 – Media outlets state the Kona Electric will be sold in California first, but there is no indication it will become nationwide.
March 2018 – InsideEVs.com reported that the Kona Electric will first be available in California only, and then followed shortly later by the ZEV states like Washington, Oregon, New York, etc. They also guessed the price would be in the mid to high $20,000 range as the base model, gasoline powered Kona starts at $19,500.
February 2018 – Some sources said the Kona Electric will be available in the United States in the first half of 2019 and that the base price would be under $40,000 USD. Only the larger 64 kWh battery pack, longer range version will be available.
