The Polestar 2 is Volvo’s first all-electric vehicle, scheduled for production launch in February 2020, with first deliveries in the USA happening in July 2020.
The Launch Edition will be produced first, with the other versions of the Polestar 2 following at a later date.
Polestar 2 Launch Edition
The Launch Edition will be produced for the first year of production and will be the first available version of the Polestar 2 EV.
The Polestar 2 Launch Edition has a long range battery, all-wheel-drive, and 408 hp with a very high level of standard options, so very few additional options are available.
Drivetrain Specifications
The Polestar 2 will get a 78 kWh batter pack worldwide, except in China where it will only get 72 kWh – suggesting perhaps a different supplier, or limited in size to avoid a luxury tax (source needed)
The 78 kWh lithium battery pack consists of 27 liquid cooled modules, and a total of 324 pouch cells. The target range is 500 kms, or just over 300 miles, on the WLTP test scale. EPA range is expected to be around 275 miles.
Polestar 2 takes 4.7 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h with it’s dual motor all-wheel-drive system
Total power output is 408 hp and 660 Nm of torque.
Fast charging capability of speeds up to 150 kW.
A Polestar 2 Performance Pack will be available that includes adjustable Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes, 20-inch forged wheels and Polestar’s signature gold detailing. src
Polestar 2 Towing Capacity
The Polestar 2 will have a tow bar option available. No details on pricing for the towing option, or the Polestar 2 tow capacity.
On the Polestar website FAQ section, it lists the following:
Can you equip Polestar 2 with a tow bar?
Source: Polestar.com
Yes, Tow bar will be an option during the final order.
Is Polestar 2 a performance car?
Polestar is labeling the 2 as a performance car because it features a high-output EV drivetrain with 408 hp (300 kW) and all wheel drive. 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is achieved in less than 5 seconds.
Polestar also mentions that performance is more than acceleration – the Polestar 2 chassis is performance oriented.
Other Polestar 2 Specifications
Phone-as-key: The car can be locked an unlocked via bluetooth within 2 meters – the Polestar 2 uses 4 antennas to recognize the presence of the driver’s phone.
Performance Pack: The optional performance pack includes adjustable Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes, 20-inch forged wheels and Polestar’s signature gold detailing. src
Specifications for the 2020 Polestar 2 Electric Vehicle
The Polestar 2 was officially unveiled in production form at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Since the reveal, Volvo group has been releasing more specifications and details on the EV.

Design and function
The Polestar 2 does not have a flat floor like many other electric vehicles on the market. Instead, it has a raised tunnel (just like the ICE transmission tunnels). Head of electric propulsion at Polestar, Hans Pehrson, said this about the tunnel:
It’s a balance where you put things. We use the tunnel for a good packaging purpose. It’s not air in there. We don’t think it’s a compromise.
Polestar 2 Performance
Polestar is marketing their 2 electric vehicle as a performance sedan, squarely aimed at competing with the Tesla Model 3. The Polestar 2 has a high-output EV drivetrain that can accelerate the vehicle from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in less than 5 seconds.
Polestar also notes that performance is more than just acceleration, and the 2 has been designed with a performance-oriented chassis.
Plus, if you need more, there is the performance pack for those that want an “even more dynamic experience.” The pack includes adjustable shocks, Brembo brakes, larger 20-inch forged wheels, and signature gold detailing (it seems to us the gold detailing is for looks, not performance).
