MINI Electric Specifications Timeline
In July 2019, MINI announced they are converting the Mini to an electric vehicle. EV range is around 130 miles on the WLTP scale, while EPA range is 114 miles.
As of March 2019, no official specifications are available for the 2019 Cooper SE. However, on March 5, in Munich, Germany, Mini invited some press to test-drive the Cooper SE EV prototype. src
The drivetrain of the ES is based on the BMW i3S – using a 181 horsepower/135 kilowatt electric motor and a 33kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The battery pack is manufactured by Chinese supplier CATL, and weighs 441 pounds and consists of 96 different cells. Recharge time will be around 40 minutes for an 80% recharge when using a 50 kW DC fast charger. Charging on a level 2 EVSE will take around 12 hours.
The Mini EV doesn’t share any of the carbon fiber from the BMW i series, instead it is built like the standard Mini with a metal subframe that holds the electric motor and control electronics.
Range should be around 120 miles per charge. The BMW i3S has a top speed of 100 mph and 0-62mph acceleration in 7.7 seconds, so the Mini EV will be slightly slower because of it’s extra 350 pounds or so that the motor needs to move along.
Tires are Pirelli P Zero tires sized 205/45/R17
Pricing will come closer to the promised launch date of late 2019, and Mini has said it will be a “competitive price against the Cooper S automatic”
