March 2019 – Volkswagen group will develop a family of entry-level electric models to launch during the first wave of electric vehicles from VW planned before the end of 2025

March 2019 – Volkswagen increases their EV targets from 50 planned electric vehicles by 2028, to almost 70 different vehicles planned with a target of 22 million electric vehicles built. They will be released under the different brands VW owns (Audi, Seat etc) and most of the vehicles will use the shared MED (Modular Electric Toolkit) platform.

February 2019 – European destined I.D. hatchback will be called I.D.3 src

February 2019 – Volkswagen says that by 2023, or 2024 at the latest, the company will introduce an electric car that starts from less than
€20,000 and will have a range greater than the current e-Golf (125 miles) src

January 2019 – Volkswagen I.D. introduction will be preceded by an ordering system that will allow customers to place deposits before the electric vehicle will be available in showrooms. Volkswagen’s Norwegian team expects 10,000 pre-orders from Norway alone. src

Production of the I.D. Hatchback is still slated for November 2019 in Europe, and the I.D. Crozz destined for the US will hit markets in 2020.

November 2018 – Volkwagen announces an updated e-Up! with an increased range of 270 kms (168 miles) on the WLTP test cycle thanks to a 18.7 kWh battery pack. Pricing has also decreased in Germany by €3,925.

October 2018 – Volkwagen Auto Groups’s China venture with SAIC Motor Corp started building a $2.5 billion new energy plant in Shanghai.The plant will have an annual capacity to make 300,000 cars beginning production in 2020. Reuters

October 2018 – Production plans for the Volkswagen I.D. hatchback is expected to hit 100,000 in 2020, but launch may be delayed by a few months as Volkswagen is now saying 2020, rather than late 2019

October 2018 – Volkswagen Group shares EV targets of 1 million electric vehicles by 2025, and 10 million worldwide by 2030. The first EV models on the Volkswagen MEB platform will be available in 2020.

September 2018 – Volkswagen gives details on I.D. hatchback model destined for Europe in late 2019. The range of the base model will be 330 km, using a 48 kWH battery pack. The cheapest model will have a starting price of approximately £32,000 in UK ($42,000 or €35,700) or £27,500 after £4,500 Plug-In Car Grant

September 2018 – Volkswagen launches a promotional campaign called “Electric for All”. Using the new modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform, Volkswagen plans 27 MEB models across four different brands by the end of 2022.

May 2018 – Volkswagen says the I.D. concept will make it to production in November 2019 with sales starting early in 2020. The electric hatchback won’t make it to the USA, but a production version of the I.D. Crozz will arrive in North America in 2020. In addition, the I.D. Buzz and I.D. Vizzion will follow.
