North America
In the U.S., the new 2016 Volvo XC90 will appear at dealers in May, followed by the plug-in hybrid T8 “Twin-Engine” model summer for test drives and orders, with deliveries scheduled for the fall of 2015. The SUV will be priced from $68,100.
Volvo sold 28,000 xc90 SUVs in the U.S. last year, and hopes to sell around 7 to 10 percent of the new XC90 line as plug-in hybrids. That means Volvo would be on track to sell 200 to 250 XC90 T8 models a month once sales get going. If the UK sales are any indication, however, Volvo could see much higher demand.

Volvo was planning on a 3-5% take rate for the plug-in hybrid T8 model, but as of April 2015, the current rate on sold orders is over 20%. Although the XC90 T8 isn’t due until late 2015, demand is so high the plug-in SUV is now sold out until well into 2016, and Volvo is playing production catch-up to try and match demand.
