The Volkswagen Passat GTE made its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014. The first Passat with a plug-in hybrid drive system, the GTE will be the last model to be launched in the eight generation Passat lineup that is currently being launched in Europe.

The Passat GTE will be launched in the second half of 2015, both as an estate and saloon version.

UK Availability

At the Paris Auto Show in early 2015, Volkswagen said the Passat GTE will become available to order in the UK in June 2015. First deliveries are expected in October 2015. Later in 2015, the UK website stated that orders would open in late 2015 with first customer deliveries happening in early 2016.

However, as of January 2016, the Volkswagen UK website still stated that the Passat GTE is ‘coming soon’.

Pricing for the Passat R-Line model in the UK starts at £27,425, so expect the GTE to be around, or above, £30,000.

Netherlands

On February 6, Volkswagen opened pre-orders for the Passat GTE in the Netherlands. With the low emissions of the Passat GTE, the vehicle is eligible for the country’s 7% addition to drive. Pricing will be announced in May 2015, and deliveries will start in September.

Australian Availability

According to Volkswagen Australia general manager of communications, the automaker does not currently “have any plans for a local release [..] However, if the local market conditions were to change, we could incorporate the Passat GTE and other similar models into our existing model range.”

North American Availability

If the Passat GTE makes it to North America at all, it will be after the eight-generation Passat crosses the ocean in mid-late 2016.
