Volkswagen Golf GTE Availability

Specs and Info

In March 2014, the Volkswagen Golt GTE will be officially revealed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. We expect some firmer delivery dates and production timelines then. In the meantime:

Europe

In February 2016, Volkswagen started accepting pre-orders for the Golf GTE in Italy.

January 2015: Volkswagen announces the Golf GTE is now for sale in the UK. As of January 20, the online build tool and GTE microsite are live.

August 2014: The Golf GTE goes on sale in the UK in November 2014, pricing to start at £28,000.

Some speculate that since the Golf GTE is based off of the Audi A3 e-Tron, it will follow the e-Tron to market. The A3 e-Tron is set for launch later this year, so the Golf GTE could be as late as Fall 2015. We likely see it happening sooner, as the vehicle is ready for production and delaying it just increased competition in the segment.

Now that pricing is announced for Germany, it seems that Volkswagen will get the GTE to market by the end of 2014.

North America

At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, executives from Volkswagen said that the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid would not be sold in the US. Some, like InsideEVs.com, speculate that since the GTE is intended for the mass market, and the mass EV market is in the US, the Golf GTE will indeed make it to North America some time before mid-2015.

Originally, we were told the Golf GTE will make its way to the United States in late 2014 or early 2015.

Korea

In October 2014, Volkswagen Korea said it might import the PHEV Golf GTE in 2015.
