2019 VW Passat GTE comes with a longer range than the previous generation. The 13 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is larger than the 9.9 kWh of the last generation. Instead of only 31 miles on the ‘easier’ test, the new Passat GTE achieves a 33-36 mile test on the newer, more stringent test cycle.
The total system power output is 160 kW from the 1.4 liter TSI engine and the 85 kW electric motor. Onboard is a 3.6 kW charger that allows a full battery recharge in about 4 hours.
The base model Passat GTE gets 17 inch alloy wheels, sport suspension, and an 8 inch touchscreen inside. The Passat GTE Advance model gets 18 inch alloy wheels, a larger 9.2 inch touchscreen, LED headlights, keyless entry and an easy-open powered tailgate.
“We are very pleased to have such a strong offering in the new Passat,” said Patrick McGillycuddy, head of sales operations at Volkswagen UK. “It debuts many exciting new technologies for the Volkswagen brand such as Travel Assist and wireless App Connect, so is the perfect companion for families and business users that travel long distances.

Efficiency
The Passat GTE uses a 9.9 kWh lithium-ion high voltage battery to power the electric motor. That gives the Passat an all electric range of up to 31 miles in all-electric E-mode, and over 600 miles of combined driving range.
The NEDC consumption for the new Passat GTE is over 141 mpg (under 2.0 l/100 km) and 13.0 kWh/100 km. This equates to CO2 emissions lower than 45 g/km.
Passat sedan GTE: fuel consumption in l / 100 km 1.6; (Combined); CO2 emissions in g / km: 37 (combined).
Passat Variant GTE: fuel consumption in l / 100 km: 1.7 (combined); CO2 emissions in g / km: 39 (combined).
Performance
The 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE packs a 154 horsepower 1.4 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, and an electric motor with 114 horsepower. Combined power output is 215 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque.
Using a six-gear dual clutch gearbox especially developed for the hybrid drive, the VW GTE plug-in hybrid is able to accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 8 seconds. Top speed is more than 136 mph, and in all electric mode, top speed is 80mph.
Distinction
The Passat GTE is on an independent equipment line. The vehicle includes standard Volkswagen equipment like Driver Alert System, LED headlights, etc., but at the same time, as a high-tech flagship for Volkswagen, the Passat GTE has several unique elements and equipment upgrades to distinguish it from the rest of the automaker’s range.
A unique chrome radiator grille with a blue line, and a redesigned front bumper with C-chaped LED daytime running lights help the Passat GTE stand out. 17-inch ‘Astana’ alloy wheels help identify the GTE as a plug-in hybrid when viewed from the side.
