Battery Pack Size
Chevrolet calls the Bolt EV battery pack 60 kWh, but after tearing down a Chevrolet Bolt and examining the battery pack, Professor John Kelly at Weber University determined the battery pack is actually 57 kWh by adding up the LG labels on the module covers in a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. source
For the 2020 model year, Chevrolet made a change to the battery pack chemistry that increased the capacity to 66 kWh, increasing the EPA rated range by 21 miles from 238 miles to 259 miles.
Can the Bolt EV use a DC fast charger in cold weather?
Yes it can. There has been some speculation that it can’t, because there is no mention of a provision to heat the battery during DC charging in the owners manual. However, Bolt owners with OBD readers have seen the battery heater active during DC charging, and the owners manual reference a warning message that says ‘Battery too cold, plug in to warm’ is referring to when the battery temperature is getting below -40F or -40C.
