Since EVs are new, so are many terms and words used, and it can be confusing to people. Here’s a round-up of some of the most commen EV definitions, abbreviations, etc.
AER – all electric range
EV – electric vehicle
EVSE – electric vehicle supply equipment – also commonly, and incorrectly, referred to as a charger or charging unit. It does not charge the battery, it simply provides the electricity to the on-board battery charger
PHEV – plug-in hybrid electric vehicle
